The word Nursing came from the word "Nutricius" which came from the word cherish, to protect, to support, to sustain, to train, to educate, and to supply with things essential for growth. Ms Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) made emphasis on the preparation of individual who can care for sick and promote health of individual and society.

According to American Nurses Association "Nursing practice is a direct service, goal directed and adaptable to the needs of the individual the family of community during health & illness." Nursing is the profession which demands dedication, patience, devotion, professional commitment, responsibility orderliness in working, punctuality, continues motivation, high level of initiative and self discipline.

The professional nurse plays role as a client advocate, an educator, a team leader and accountable for providing quality care for those who are under his/her care.
